The young people are panicking

Matheson Nteleko, project manager of Phila Ubomi, wrote to us last week to share the effect of the pandemic on young people in his area.

"Over a million of young people including ours are panicking staying at homes without jobs and there is no hope in their future."

The increase in infections has been a shock and the prospect of a third wave is daunting.

"We thought that ever since the Corona Virus started in March last year it would be over. Many people have lost their lives up until now due to this pandemic young and old especially in our area.

In November last year the number of infections appeared to be going down but now things

have changed and the numbers are increasing many people are infected and are admitted in hospital. Maybe it is the beginning of the 3rd wave as it has been announced by the state president - we do not know."

The funding Fundelaship provides for food relief is helping some of the most disadvantaged families to endure the current challenges.

"Worst of the things are people suffering from starvation and have lost their jobs. They are staying at their homes with their families without food. It is worse with poor people and those suffering with their illness such as HIV/AIDS and other severe diseases."
