About

Since 2003 Fundelaship has been working with Matheson and Thembeka Nteleko of Phila Ubomi (Live Well), our South African partner, to provide tailor made programmes which respond to the needs of rural communities near mThatha in the Eastern Cape, one of the three poorest provinces in South Africa.

After decades of neglect, these communities still struggle with lack of investment in health, education and social care services. They have large numbers of people living with HIV and high levels of poverty. We bridge some of the gaps by providing training and peer education in:

  • Living well with HIV

  • Home-based healthcare

  • Healthy homes

  • Women’s community projects

We are managed by a small team of volunteers and trustees:

Adele Templeton (Trustee)

Andrea Mason, Project Manager (Trustee, Chairperson)

Robbie Coull (Trustee)

Cathy Wilkins (Steering group)

Lynn Strange, Trainer (Steering group)

Andy Mason (Steering group)

Gill Bidwell, (Trustee, Treasurer)

Fundelaship is based on three values:

Love

To love one’s neighbour as oneself is summed up in the Xhosa concept of ubuntu, ‘I am a person through other people’. Fundelaship aspires to embody the values of ubuntu: compassion, respect, dignity, mutuality, co-operation, unity, equity, and partnership.

Faith

Fundelaship is founded on Christian faith and a commitment to transform our world to become better - more sustainable and more equitable. We act with integrity, honesty and transparency and are prepared to take considered risks that benefit marginalised individuals and communities.

Hope

We value sustainable interventions that promote social justice by empowering marginalised individuals and communities to transform their own lives and to challenge disadvantage and discrimination.

We believe everyone living with HIV should have the support, knowledge and skills to live well.

Our Mission

  • Enable communities to reduce the impact of HIV and AIDS

  • Engage community members in practical care for HIV affected family and neighbours

  • Equip communities to reduce poverty

  • Empower community members and groups to eliminate stigma and discrimination

Our Mission

Our Vision

The alleviation of poverty and the impact of HIV and AIDS on individuals, families and communities in the Eastern Cape.

We need your support today!
